Released on May 20, 2003 through Indianola Records, A Tragedy in Progress was the debut full-length album from Tennessee post-hardcore outfit Across Five Aprils. The record quickly became an underground favorite in the early 2000s post-hardcore and screamo scene thanks to its emotional intensity, chaotic energy, melodic passages, and memorable song titles. Recorded at XadeX Studios, the album helped establish the band as a rising name alongside acts like Underoath, Funeral for a Friend, and From Autumn to Ashes. 

The album remains especially beloved among longtime fans of the early-2000s melodic hardcore scene, with tracks like “Blue-Eyed Suicide,” “Pawn Shop Promises,” and “A Year From Now” still frequently shared and discussed in post-hardcore communities today.
